I shot this picture in Kashmir, somewhere. A group of children playing around, and their older sister, behaving as a grown up. On the background, a cart and a pile of rubble. A feeling of deja vu very strong. Everything strongly reminded me of Italy after WWII, of Rossellini, Visconti, of 'Ladri di Biciclette" di De Sica. Same cart, same children, same rubble. Traveling, I realized, is essentially that: going back and forth in time, revisiting history...

Ho scattato questa foto a Kashmir, da qualche parte. Un gruppo di bambini che giocano in giro, e la loro sorella maggiore, che si attaggia come una donna adulta. Sullo sfondo, un carro e un mucchio di macerie. Una sensazione di déjà vu molto forte. Tutto ciò mi ha ricordava l'Italia del dopo guerra, Rossellini, Visconti, 'Ladri di biciclette "di De Sica. Stessi carri, stessi bambini, stesse macerie. Viaggiare, l'ho capito alla fine, è in sostanza questo: andare avanti e indietro nel tempo, rivisitare la storia ...
